Discover the history of Mate Suisse. Who am I?
From the roots of mate in Argentina to the heart of Switzerland.

I am Manon Gessner, originally from Santo Pipo, Misiones, Argentina, the land of mate. My story begins with my father, a Swiss who came to Argentina at a very young age and fell in love with its culture. Together with other Swiss, they founded the Santo Pipo yerba mate cooperative and mate became an essential part of our family life.

Mate has been an integral part of my life since I was a child. I took my first steps in the yerba mate plantations. I started drinking mate at a very young age and it was always present in my life, from the mate sessions with family and friends to the long nights studying at university

My career

In 2010, I took over our family business. This gave me in-depth knowledge of every stage of yerba mate production. This experience gave me a comprehensive vision of production and solidified my passion for this infusion.

I was also on the board of the Santo Pipo yerba mate producers’ co-op. This helped me understand the business side of the sector. In 2011, I started representing the producers and cooperatives of Misiones province at the National Yerba Mate Institute of Argentina. I took part in international fairs and events, promoting mate and strengthening links with global markets.

The Swiss adventure and Mate Suisse

In 2020, I arrived in Switzerland with mate in my suitcase and the hope of keeping this beautiful culture alive. Seeing how many of us are passionate about mate in this country, the idea of creating Mate Suisse was born. My mission is to spread this passion and to raise awareness of the benefits of this noble infusion. Just as my father and other Swiss fell in love with yerba mate in Argentina, today I pay homage to this tradition in Switzerland, connecting two worlds through mate.
